What is OMFS/OFS?
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Oral and Facial Surgery) is a specialty of dentistry that requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, your Doctor manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Your Doctor practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery, wisdom tooth removal, tooth extractions, the diagnosis and treatment of pathology, to corrective jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure if lost or deficient with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures.
General anesthesia or IV Sedation can also be performed in the office utilizing the doctors expertise and a staff that is trained in assisting with Intravenous (IV) sedation or outpatient general anesthesia. Patients are continuously monitored very similar to a hospital during and after surgery.
Surgical Staff
The surgical staff at your Oral Surgeon’s practice consists of experienced, certified oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants which may include RNs, who assist the doctor during surgery and when a patient undergoes the administration of IV sedation or general anesthesia. Administrative personnel staff are well-versed in medical and dental insurance policies and are there to help you with your insurance questions.
